How We're Living At Winthrop University

Living on Winthrop University's Campus Verses Living Off Campus and other Universities

Winthrop University’s Residence Life or “Res Life” as we call it, is dedicated to supporting and encouraging the personal development and academic success of each student in our residential community. The Residence Life at Winthrop University differs from the other universities in South Carolina. There are defiantly more of an advantage to living on the Winthrop Campus that other schools don’t have.

Things that Winthrop has as a benefit to living on campus are, but not limited to, free laundry. Winthrop University has free laundry. No carrying around quarters for the machines. The students at the University of South Carolina aren’t so lucky. They have to use out of pocket money to their laundry.

Another advantage to living on Winthrop University’s campus is being provided with a refrigerator and microwave. These are two essential things in a college student’s life when it comes to food. Some schools like the University of South Carolina do not supply one with every room. At Clemson University students have to rent or buy one. Microwaves aren’t even permitted at South Carolina State University.

Not only does Winthrop University have all of these amenities, but also the convenience of walking to class from building to building without going outside. Dorms such as Margret Nance are connected to building like Owens, Bancroft, and Rutledge. This makes it convenient for students to get from class to class in harsh weather conditions. Some are opposed to living on any campus. “Living on campus makes you much more connected to Winthrop [school],” said Sarah, a residence advisor at Winthrop University. Not only do you get all these amenities of living on Winthrop’s campus, but you also are more connected with University as far as events and meeting new people.
